The Ascent of Media: From Gilgamesh to Google via Gutenberg ReviewI can easily see this as a textbook for a high school social sciences class, and Roger Parry, in clear and concise prose, does chart the rise of different form of media, obviously powerful media such as newspapers and the web, but also less obvious media such as posters and comic books. But this is also a book that was written for the sake of it being written, and doesn't offer any substance. Why was media created in the first place, and what impact does it have in transforming how societies coalesce and co-operate? If it's true that the "medium is the message" then how do different media impact us? While posing questions, the book fails to provide any concrete answers. What makes the book extremely hard to read, besides the glibness of the endeavour, are these text bubbles, while meant to offer examples and interesting trivia really do nothing more than distract and annoy.The Ascent of Media: From Gilgamesh to Google via Gutenberg Overview
