The Rough Guide to Android Phones (Rough Guide Reference Series) Review"The Rough Guide to Android Phones" by Andrew Clare is a concise guide to Android phones in a user friendly, (nearly) pocket size book. The book is very nicely illustrated in color throughout, is good at explaining Android concepts, and is particularly helpful to new users. I particularly liked that application names were in bold font throughout, which made it easier to figure out where you needed to go, what you needed to do, and how to do those things. The book covers everything from basics like syncing computer files and using email on an Android device, to more obscure topics like "What is augmented reality?" Obviously every reader will not need every piece of information in this book, but it's logically divided into sections like a manual, and topics of interest are very easy to find compared with lots of other books.
The book has an excellent chapter ("Internet Apps") that deals with particularly handy applications available for the Android. I found Clare's selections very well-reasoned, and generally agree with his selections, especially in the "Essential Apps" section. This book covers Android in general, and while it does contain a section on finding the right phone for you, I find this book is best paired with a guide to the specific phone you buy. In other words, you might also want to buy "Droid 2 for Dummies," for example, to deal more in depth with the specific Android product you choose.
