The ME Moment ReviewI'm not sure when things really started heading south in America, but with the widespread corruption in big business and our politicians, greed and power seems to trump all ethics these days. As a nation, it just seems like our moral compass is spinning out of control. Yet few media outlets truly dive in and really report on such topics. Nope, we live in a world where true reporting has gone the way of dinosaurs and it's all about the quick quip. With few exceptions, getting to the truth takes a back seat to profit motives. This book hopes to change that. Even if I didn't necessarily agree with author Dan Flockhart's views on a few of the subjects he tackled, I wholeheartedly agree with his goal of starting a conversation on the important issues we have to address - and the sooner the better.
A good read that will ideally inspire you to help get the ball rolling to get this great nation back on the right track. The ME Moment OverviewAre you fed up with the morality meltdown? Crime is rampant, violence is ubiquitous, prisons are overflowing, and lying is prevalent. The Internet generates massive fraud, celebrities market products they do not use, microwave ovens produce carcinogenic foods, and the use of cell phones can lead to brain tumors. In a word, chaos. Personal agendas are prioritized over the greater good, as decisions are based on economics, rather than ethics. This Money before Ethics (ME) mentality threatens the survival of the human race, because the pursuit of wealth results in a consumption rate that is not sustainable. A “ME cocktail" has set the stage for immorality on an immense scale: trickle-down ethics from leaders, a widening gap between the haves and the have-nots, an educational institution on life support, corporate advertising that targets the unconscious mind, and incentives that have never been greater. The result is a universal quest for money, attention, or power. This mindset is not conducive to rational decision-making, resulting in poor decisions that are not socially responsible. At the same time, there is a shortage of perspective because many do not consider the impact their actions have on mankind. Yet, most people believe they are ethical, because they tend to judge their behavior in terms of their good deeds rather than their moral transgressions. The ME Moment is incisive, entertaining, and original. A wide range of current events are covered, and a series of surprising interviews with adolescents is interspersed throughout the book. It calls for a paradigm shift, including speeding tickets based on gas mileage, death-on-screen taxes to reduce violence in films and on television, and the creation of a cabinet-level Department of Ethics.Human infallibility is universal. But why do people violate ethics? What causes so many people to act irrationally? The ME Moment explains the real reasons behind immorality, and they may surprise you. Indeed, it will change the way you look at the world.
