HTML5 Digital Classroom, (Book and Video Training) ReviewI've been holding off on learning HTML5 due to the buzz that it is a not-quite-ready-for-prime-time technology. With the push toward mobile device development, Web designers and developers can not afford to wait any longer. HTML5 has arrived and this training manual offers a solid learning experience.
I have only read through four chapters, but I like what I've seen so far. The book offers companion training videos, useful especially for visual learners. I have not yet accessed the videos because all of the explanations are easy to follow and the text is clearly documented with the code you need to add or change in order to complete each assignment. Should I run into a more complicated example, I'm glad the video is there to help walk me through the solution.
I also like the way the author provided options depending on the reader's experience level. If you are new to HTML and CSS it is in your best interest to step through the book chapter by chapter to obtain a solid understanding of how these technologies fit into the design process. Lesson 2 through 5, in particular, walk the reader through these basics. The real action begins with Lesson 6 if you already have a basic understanding of HTML and CSS. The next 10 lessons provide all you need to know to become proficient with the new features in HTML5, as well as, CSS3.
My only hesitation is "Will this be enough?" My sense is that more seasoned Web designers and developers might want a text that offers a little more challenge. I will likely be exploring other texts beyond this one. For now, since this is my first venture into HTML5, I am confident that the information presented and the sample code provided will give me the confidence to deploy my first HTML5 website.
